DOCUMENTARY
Like many Muralists throughout history, particularly those from the vibrant mural movement in Mexico, Evan sees teaching and engaging with the community as an integral part of his artistic journey. His passion for community projects has led him to work in diverse settings, from youth centres to dementia homes across the uk, to the Bolivian jungle or a Portuguese psychiatric hospital. In places like this, art can inspire, connect and heal.
"Alongside teaching creative skills, we use art as a platform to teach business and enterprise, build confidence or tackle issues like drugs, mental health and wellbeing or relationships. I feel like good art has the ability to instill critical thinking into people. Studying my MA in Fine Art helped me to be able to research and present any subject in a succinct way" - Evan Barlow

International Development Bolivia 2014
An amazing documentary I was fortunate to have taken part in with International Citizen Service. Children from an isolated mining town were becoming addicted to recreational drugs and were poorly educated about sexual health. With other UK and Bolivian volunteers we travelled along some of the worlds' most dangerous roads to deliver workshops. We tried our best to have fun whilst helping these young people, we weren't aware of the impact we would have on some lives. Six months after the project we were told that as a result of our input, some young people had disclosed instances of abuse which lead to serious convictions of the perpetrators.

The girls of San Gabriel Photograhy exibition
Whilst in Bolivia we curated an exhibition building from an earlier project, young girls who attended youth centres were given disposable cameras to take pictures in their community exploring the role of a woman in society. Hundreds of photos were taken, only a fraction were exhibited.
The theme was ''the role of a woman in society''

Dereches y Deberes -
Rights and respossibilites
On the outskirts of the mountain top city of La Paz, 30 volunteers and 30 young people with limited resources created a mural on the side of a youth centre based on our childrens rights project.
The images reflect; the right to education, means the responsibilty to be punctual and listen.
The right to acheive carries with it the responsibility to dream big.
The children who had best attendance and most well behaved featured in the painting.
We also painted in warning zones of dangerous steps on the floor throughout the youth centre.

Action shots from various projects of young peoples artwork. Customising trainers with spray paints, Che Guevara mosaic made from smashed tiles and donated wood.
Graffiti workshops, painting classes and pictures from our market stall where a group of juniors made art to sell on a local market stall and actually made a good profit.
